G&G GK5D (AK5D) prototype quick look

G&G GK5D (AK5D) prototype

The manufacturer G&G Armament released the airsoft gun similar to the Swedish Army rifle AK5C (GK5C GL) in the end of 2012 and will soon also release the shorter version AK5D (G&G GK5D). We have made a quick look of the AK5D prototype during the midsummer weekend before it would further to the Nordic distributor and show in shops until the release.

This is not a complete review only a quick check and a small comparison with the AK5C model about the hand cover and the battery solution. Because this is a prototype and not the final product details and specifications can be changed.

The battery solution is made for a two-piece 7.2V LiPo battery unlike the GK5C which have a space for a three-piece 11.1V LiPo battery. But except that this gun have a shorter inner and outer barrel and hand guard but otherwise the weapon body is identical with the AK5C. At our test we didn’t had access to a 7.2V LiPo battery so we used a 11.1V LiPo battery instead and got the results about 100 m/s in muzzle velocity with 0.25 g bbs and with a rate of fire of about 20 rounds per second.

The hand cover is similar to a G36 hand cover. The hand cover to GK5C GL have a door on right side.

The two-piece 7.2V LiPo battery will be mounted in the two included battery holders made of plastic.

An illustrative picture of how the battery will be mounted. Not to scale.

The hand cover on AK5C have a tendence to wobble but on the AK5D it’s much better on the AK5D because of its construction and that the battery holders helps to do it more stable.

The front part of the gun. The included flash hider is longer that for GK5C GL.

The hand cover for AK5C and AK5D. Except that they have different lengths, the widths and heights are different to have space for the battery.

A front grip which is similar to that is used to AK5C and D is just possible to attach on the picatinny rail but it will not pass the plastic behind. But it’s possible to grind down the plastic. But hopefully that will be fixed to the final product.

On the AK5C model there is no problem to attach a front grip on the picatinny rail.

Finally a picture with the AK5 family from G&G Armament. AK5 (GF85 GL), AK5C (GK5C GL with extra equipment) and AK5D prototype (GK5D prototype).

We would like to thank G&G Armament for the possibility to have a look at this prototype and we also hope to test the final product when it’s released.
